Application

Copper-catalyzed Cyclopropanation of alpha-Diazoketones to Norcaradienes

Copper-catalyzed Cyclopropanation of alpha-Diazoketones to Norcaradienes

Typical procedure (entry 4): A microwave reaction vessel is charged with a solution of the diazoketone (53 mg) in CH2Cl2 (10 mL). Cu(hfacac)2 (9.5 mg) in CH2Cl2 (2 mL) is added via syringe. The vial is placed in the microwave reactor and heated to 120 ºC for 1 minute (ramp from 22 ºC to 120 ºC requires 2 min). The solvent is removed under reduced pressure, and the residue is purified by flash chromatography (eluent: 0 to 100 % EtOAc/hexanes) to give the norcaradiene (30mg, 64 %) as a white solid.
